Studio visit- Media 21a.

I had the opportunity to visit a small design and print studio in Huddersfield called Media 21a. This was easily arranged as my friend is currently doing her year placement with them and was happy for me to go along with her.
It was good to look around a small studio environment as before this was something that I definitely considered after graduation and I found that it was inviting and homely which was a nice surprise and good friendly introduction for me into the industry.  It has changed my opinion on the industry and I am more confident of my own place within it after seeing their attitude towards it.
During the morning I had the chance to watch various print and design jobs which were going on but also to consider how invoicing and quote side of the job went. I was surprised at how long this process was and how complicated it sometimes was to get correct. Although this is something we have looked at with John in PPP I now know that this is a sketchy area for me and I should consider it and get more help with it before leaving.
Whilst I was there I also had the opportunity to talk through my portfolio and consider the quality of images once they was printed, which was very helpful. I can see that some are more pixelated then on screen so this is something to consider but the choice of font and size is good on an A3 size. Although this isn't somewhere I would exactly like to do a placement as I have learnt I would prefer a studio with a much heavier impact in design rather than printing it definitely geared me up for future interviews as I now feel more confident about what work and presentation of this I need.
